Home Sweet Home

Hi All-

Just want to let you know that Michael and I survived L.A. and are home safe and sound. Of course, the weekend that we chose to visit was in the middle of a record-setting heat wave. The first day we were there it was 111 degrees! Yuck. As if L.A. is not bad enough. It was a good visit though, and I didn't have to play "princess" with the youngest one (niece). We actually went to the mall to escape the heat. Another yuck! It's good to be home.

I just turned in my last exam before the final for the first module of my MT course. Two more modules to go, but I'm hoping to be done before the end of the year. I never imagined that "hepatosplenomegaly" would be in my vocabulary. The spell check doesn't even recognize it. Anyway, I'm learning a ton and love working and studying from home.

Michael got a scholarship from the company he works for to take classes toward getting licensed as a Substance Abuse Counselor. His work at the Academy will count toward his clinical hours and everything is done at the Academy or online. It's a great opportunity, and only four people from the whole company were chosen. Can you imagine? Both of us in school at our ages. It's a new world out there.

Anyway, just checking in. Miss you all.

You jest be clicking yo heals together sayin' "There's no place like home!"
It has been hot all over it seems. I don't mind the heat too much although 111 might shut me up. You having to mall crawl to keep cool is a vision though.
On Friday Don and I hosted a Mystery Tour on the motor home. We had made up invitations for 4couples that we're friends with inviting them to join us on a mystery tour. We picked them up at a prescribed time and gave them clues as to where we were going. We ended up at a winery where we had a private tour, then had a picnic dinner. They were supposed to have a concert but it got rained out. About 1/2 hr later the sun came out( and dried up all the rain)but it was too late to change their minds. We had a great time in spite of the rain.
Well I'm glad you are home safe and sound.
Glad to hear about all your new endevors! You are busy! busy! busy!

Glad all went well(except for the weather) for your trip to LA.Was there a party or just a family gathering?
Sounds like the two of you are busy.Remember, I went to school when I was in my 40's.A late start sometimes is a good start. And it sounds like you are doing something you like. Good Luck.

Thanks, Mom. It is hard to believe that you went to nursing school in your forties, and then worked for twenty-some years!

In L.A., we just did a surprise dinner on Friday at Michael's sister's house, then a casual/mall day on Saturday followed by an ADULTS ONLY (not a yell, just an emphasis) dinner out on Saturday night. Sunday we did a barbecue with the whole family and it was my good fortune that Michael's mom needed some pictures worked on, so I got to hunker down at the computer and was just "too busy" to play Wi and Princess!

Michael's mom (Marcia) and Harvey (his step-dad) recently went to the Balkans and his mom finally went digital with the camera. However, she shot all the pictures in the video mode by mistake! So she needed stills pulled out of each video shot, which I know how to do. Marcia and Harv are very reluctant to enter the digital age, not like you Mom! Anyway, I had a project and that saved me from looking like an idiot playing Wi golf and such. I know, I know. I'm just not into the "play" thing. It's not like I was in another room. I just set up the laptop in the kitchen.

It was a good time but I am surely glad to be back home on the Mesa. I got a super high grade on my last exam and will move right into the next module next week. There have been a number of relapses recently at the Academy, so Michael is really busy up there. He said this was a rough bunch of guys a few months ago, and that is proving to be true. They have a barbecue today (the 4th) at his Phase, so he'll be hosting 60 at about 11:00. He got up at 3:30 today and was out the door early to get ready. Yikes! No rest for the weary, but all is well.
