Western Travelers

Hi All!

By now, Deb and Don should be almost home and Pete should be recovering from some amazing skiing :) We had a great visit, Deb and Don having braved the storm and making it to Taos. They know this story already, but I thought I would share.

The first night Deb and Don were here, we had taped AI (two episodes) and did the speed watch, skipping commercials and interviews, after dinner. I drove D&D back to the RV Park, and when I returned, Michael was sitting in the bedroom looking all sad and droopy. I asked what was wrong and he told me that when he came back into the house after saying goodbye, the TV was dark and he could not get a picture to come up on any channel. He said, "American Idol blew up the TV and the last thing that played on it was that creepy Danny guy!" I tested the TV and he was right--no picture. I wasn't sure if he was happy that the incident might mean a new flat screen for the house or not, but it certainly crossed MY mind.

Anyway, it must have been a satellite issue because all was well in the morning, and our beloved TV digested the evil content and is now ready for more! Please...that country version of "Eight Days a Week" was enough to kill any television!

Hope little David Archuleta comes back with a big one next week.

Love you guys and welcome home to all the Traveling Wilburys,
Peggy

P.S. Gary, I sent you a birthday card and you never picked it up, so Happy Belated Birthday!

Well, yes we are home and recovering from a really relaxing trip across America. Speaking of America...n Idol...I somehow managed to pick campgrounds with cable(translate able to get Fox TV)on the two nights that we were on the road that Idol was on. The bad news...last night did not record on my DVR. No idea what happened. I am downloading the performances onto my iTouch so that I can see it. I understand that David Cook and David (my pick) were the standouts but that two Beatles nights in a row was not what the dr ordered. Just office chatter.
Had a great but too short time with Peggy and Michael. Their place is not an easy location to get in and out of and can certainly understand why they don't just decide to hop on a plane to NJ more often. That being said...we all sure do miss the western branch and can't wait to see Danny & co when they come in for Cassi's graduation.
Don and I had a terrific drive back East and experienced no problems with weather after leaving Taos for home. Loved Memphis and would like to revisit Tennesee sometime.

I agree that the 2 beatles night were a mistake. The first was ok, but the second was pretty bad. I just don't really enjoy a when AI uses really good bands for their song choices. I would not even watch it if they did (God Forbid), a Grateful Dead night.
My top three picks for the season are David Archuletta, Jason Castro and Brooke (?). I know Jason won't win, but I like him. It must be the old deadhead in me to like the guy with the dreads. IRL - He is probably some holy roller or something.
And I am soooo glad BOF got voted off last night. I couldn't stand to look at her. Yuck!!!
Life is going. I can't wait for a long weekend in Miami in April. I am on Jenny Craig. I am sick of being fat.
Peg - I have to tell you a story about Nate and him thinking Michael really a rockstar but I don't have the time right now. I will email you.

Love to you all!!

Is the Blog Dead???

I think we can give it a poke with a long stick and wake it up!

Yeah, I was actually glad to see BOF go, but cage-fighter girl, plueeeze! She needs to ride out on the next horse out of there!

All is well here. People are, as usual, getting tricked into thinking Spring is here, but it will snow some more. It always snows in April. I love seeing them parading around their baskets full of little flower starts at Wal-Mart, thinking they are going to get a jump on things and plant their flower beds. It's not even safe to plant until at least May
1st here, usually May 15th.

Anyway, just checking in...the dryer just stopped. I'll be back later.

The Blog is not dead...just hybernating for the winter???? I was doing my job and someone elses job since December and hardly had time to pee much less anything else. Back at my own desk now and planning on checking in more often.
We can't even plant anything until the beginning of May either but I sure can't wait until spring really shows up. I'm tired of the gray! Not my color unless you want to count my hair under the blond.
Do you mean Michael isn't really a rock star????Maybe he could try out for Idol. Oh yeah there is the age limit. Ouch!!!!

Well, if you consider playing regular gigs on the Sunset Strip, doing radio shows and music videos, having a CD out, and playing football with Jim Morrison...I guess you could call Michael a rockstar! :)

OK, Kristy Lee Cook is now the "Vote For the Worst" candidate, and ain't that the truth? "God Bless the USA" was, as Simon said, a very clever choice. I don't know how our TV didn't blow up on that one! I still like David Archuleta, including his song choices. Next week, though, he really should do a song that everyone knows.

Even though I find David Cook annoying, he really does some interesting stuff. In Michael's words, Jason the "matzohfarian" is getting a bit shallow, yea? I still think Ramielle has some untapped potential and, I'm sorry, but I really like Chekezi Ezy! That harmonica bit last week was great!

Heath, how's Jenny doing?

That's my comment. I made a serious typo. Anyway...

Oh, P.S....

Heather, we've been watching "Breaking Bad" and it is fantastic. Saw the last four of the season and now checking out the ones that we missed. I hope they do a season two.

Are you sure you don't have the documentary channel? We see some great stuff on there. A few weeks ago, we saw a show on this band called Half-Japanese. We downloaded a "Greatest Hits" type thing from iTunes and they are really awesome. Kind of a Lou Reed/Velvet Underground/Bob Dylanesque sound. Ever hear of them?

PPS--Hi Mom!

If I close my eyes, I like David Cook. He is sooooo strange looking. It's good that I really do like David Archuletta though because most of the others are really quite good. Kristy won't last much longer and though I like Ramielle she is not consistant enough. Jason needs to kick it up a notch. Michael is good too. It's going to get harder as some of them improve. We'll need to see if David grows as well.
Kristie made sure nobody(especially Simon) could rag on her song without sounding disloyal and unpatriotic. This is not a country western year. And that is the genre where Kristie belongs.
Spring weather finally arrived today. Yeah....how long will it last though?

Ok, first things first. Michael has the best lines. The matzohfarian comment is so funny. I still really like Jason though. He at least has good taste in music. I agree with David Cook's Billie Jean being very good. I think the best of the night. He has an enormous head though. He even admitted it in his little biopic. David Archuletta is good, but getting really boring. I have a hard time seeing him as a popstar. Maybe a star to the over 50 crowd (sorry Mom). Kind of like a Jeff Grobin.

Jenny is going well. I must be down atleast 5lbs in less than 2 weeks. Everyone in my house got a nasty stomach bug this week except me. I think it is because of all the processed food in my system. The food actually isn't that bad.

Wow, Jim Morrison. That's cool, but it does kind of age him ;).

Peg, I have to admit I haven't been watching Breaking Bad. Pete loves it though.

Ok, so a short version of the Michael rockstar story. We were watching a Michael Franti video and Nate was perplexed why he was playing guitar and not the drums. I couldn't figure it out. He said Uncle Michael from Cole's house plays drums, not guitar. He thinks Michael is Michael Franti. And in our house that is big shit.

peggy wolff said...

That's big shit in any house! How funny! I'll have to tell Michael that when he gets home. I know he'll get a laugh out of that. :)

Too bad Chekezie got voted off. I liked his R&B style. And David Cook...I think they should tell him to get his teeth whitened! That might help. The cameras zoom in when he does those big notes and I'm like, "Aah! Those teeth!"

Michael just picked up a CD by a band called Vida Blue. He says there is a guy from Phish on it, but there are no liner notes because one of his guys burned it for him. Oh, here comes Michael cruising up the road--talk to you guys later!

Michael just reminded me that his band(s) have opened for Spearhead, probably four times or so, at SolarFest. Maybe that's where Nate is confused! :)

As Simon said...David is back...
It is getting harder to pick a worst though. Kristie or Ramielle are the weakest I guess. I think it will come down to (in the last month) David, Michael, David Cooke
Carly. Brroke and Jason are in the middle for me. Syesha goes back and forth for me. I don't think any contestants should ever try anything that Whitney,Celine or Mariah have ever done because the judges just don't think anyone can come close so why try.
I thought Simon was being a smart ass when he said that Kristie's song choice was very clever (last week) but by his comment last night it sounds like he really did like it. Go figure.
I ate all my Chex last week and am back on WW so I don't know what I'll do about elimination night tonight. Another batch of chex is not what this body needs!!!

peggy wolff said...

Oh, poor Ramielle :( She's so much better than Kristy Lee Cook. I saw some stuff about Kristy Lee having the WWF and Nascar votes though...poster signings and that kind of thing. Plus, she is the "Vote for the Worst" candidate.

I agree that for me, it's D.A., D.C., and Michael. This week was a bit "Jesusy" for me, but I can see it as part of the genre. The Clark Bros. were our pick for America's Best Band, so it was cool to see them.

Deb, maybe you can try my trick. I never make a full batch of Chex. Sometimes 1/2 and even sometimes 1/4 the recipe. That way, you don't eat them all week!
