Coyotes and Rabbits and Spiders, Oh My!

Here's a shot of a friendly visitor that arrived this morning. We've seen lots of tarantulas lately. They migrate.

I may have to rethink that visit! What is the status of snakes in your neck of the woods? I believe I may be too high maintenance for the mesa!!! I always said spiders didn't bother me too much but I didn't mean the furry ones!

Yuck! I am not sure I could handle that either.

They're harmless. :)

It's the skinny, leggy ones that are actually dangerous (black widows and brown recluses). We have them all, but no real problems with them. Actually, the biting red fire ants are probably the worst. Thank goodness winter is coming and all the little crawlies disappear (to somewhere!!)

We have lots of snakes, but most of them are bull snakes and we LOVE them because they eat mice (which don't get in the house, but are absolutely unavoidable on the mesa). The doggies corner one once in a while, but we grab a broomstick and take them to safety.

Didn't I tell you about the rattlesnake I killed a few years back? He was snaking down the roof of the earthship and dropped onto one of the slanted windows. I would have let him go, but he started to venture into one of the broken bottles in the bottle wall. He was halfway in when I had to cut him in half with the shovel. The head part disappeared--I don't know where to. We never saw it again.

I've never seen a rattler at this house, though.

As for the tarantula--c'mon. If the Brady Bunch could handle it, so can you! :)
